Child Support calculator questions and answers

I cannot afford this amount of child support. What now ? Calculation of child support in Florida is dependent only on income. Most expenses do not affect the support amount. A couple of exceptions to this rule are reductions based on other children you support, unusual and necessary personal expenses (such as medical), or other extraordinary circumstances. Other than that, the courts require you to pay the standard Florida guidelines amount of support.

I also pay alimony. Does that affect my child support payment? The income used to calculate payment of child support is the level of income remaining after alimony is taken out. So alimony payments do reduce child support.

I am remarried, or my spouse is remarried. Does the other person's income figure into child support calculations ? No. Only the parents income is used for support calculations.

Can child support be modified ? Yes. Anytime the incomes change, child support can be recalculated and modified . The rules allow you to file for a modification anytime child support would change by $50 or 15%.
